About Steve and Dana

Thanks for visiting our site. We are Steve and Dana Watkins, two very ordinary people on an extraordinary adventure.

We are adventurers, missionaries, explorers, teachers, writers and encouragers at heart. Two people living in Jonesboro, Arkansas with our eyes on the vastness, beauty and people of the world.

In early May 2012 we purchased a half-acre lot of land on a high hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Puerto Cayo, Ecuador. As of today (6/2/12) we should be closing on that property within the next week.

In July 2012, we actually began the process of building our Ecuadorian home, not only as a business investment, but as a place of escape, adventure and to serve our fellow man – a vacation home for our family, a place to invest in the lives of others (and yes, ourselves) and a place that will be an adventure getaway for many generations of our family to come. We are using this home as a model, but expanding on it just a bit.

This blogsite is intended to chronicle our adventure and to inspire you to believe that you are free to do whatever you choose in life.

We’ll make posts here on an unscheduled basis to communicate our story, how it began, what’s happening now, and where it’s going.

Here’s what our home looks like as of August, 24, 2012…

We hope you’ll come along for the ride – and enjoy.

We are just starting the process of considering a move to Ecuador. What kind of budget should we be looking at monthly if we built?

Steve, my wife and I are US citizens living in Chiang Mai, Thailand and are moving to Ecuador in January. I read one of your blogs about your first 100 days in Puerto Cayo, interesting and informative.

We are seriously considering Puerto Cayo but don’t want to buy a car. It looks like we will need to take the bus to Jipijapa or maybe Manta to shop. It sounds like we can buy fresh fish, fruit & veggies in PC, right?

I would love to have your email so I could ask a few questions before we get there. We have rented a place in PC for a month, Jan 25 – Feb 25 while we search for a home. I have reached out to Sean Kelly and he has been helpful in answering a few of my questions.

Oh, my name is Jim Brough and my wife is Dona Hittinger. We left Colorado three years ago for Thailand but now want to be closer to the kids in Colorado.

You will have my email and I hope you will send me yours.
